What ever you flavour you bound to come across souvenirs . So here we have your typical entry into South African Token collection.

GRC Gold Reef City Tokens.

Gold Reef City” is summed-up by the company’s advertising in the following line.

“Step back in time with Gold Reef City Casino and Theme Park to experience a unique destination with a difference!”.

Located on an old gold mine, the park is themed around the gold rush on the Witwatersrand.

Park staff wear period costumes of the 1880s, and the buildings on the park are designed to mimic the same period

There is a museum dedicated to gold mining on the grounds where it is possible to see a gold-containing ore vein and see how real gold is poured into barrels.

A set of Tokens consist of 11 Coins 1/4 Penny to a 1 Pound.The denominations shows a different animal on the reverse and have sizes following those of the real coins. All pieces have a portrait of Paul Kruger on the obverse

GRC (Gold Reef City) Tokens were produced from 1986 to 1993 (Must confirm)

Edge is upright reeded on the Pond, ½ Pond, 5 Shillings, 2 ½ Shillings, 2 Shillings, Shilling & 6 Pence, however , the 3 Pence, Penny, ½ Penny & ¼ Penny edge are plain.

The observe have a beaded border round the rim. The bust of Paul Kruger, three quarters left. Signed: “GR” on truncation

On the reverse you have within a beaded border round the rim, Legend above in ornate letters: "Gold Reef City" and below denomination and date between stars, position varies. In the center a image of an animal:

(1) Pound: 22.0 mm/1.3mm Brass - Giraffe (2) Half Pound: 19.2 mm/0.9mm Brass - Kudu (3) 5 Shillings: 38.7 mm/2.5mm Aluminium - Buffalo (4) 2 ½ Shillings: 32.2 mm/1.7mm Alu. - Lion (5) 2 Shillings: 28.3 mm/1.8mm Alu. - Elephant (6) 1 Shilling: 23.6 mm/1.3mm Alu. - Cheetah (7) 6 Pence: 19.2 mm/1.3mm Alu - Springbok (8) 3 Pence: 16.1 mm/0.9mm Alu. - Hippopotamus (9) 1 Penny: 30.9 mm/1.4mm Copper - Rhinoceros (10) ½ Penny: 25.4 mm/1.3mm Copper - Leopard (11) ¼ Penny: 20.1 mm/1.1mm Alu. - Gemsbok ¼ Penny (Only in 1991 Birds)

While researching this it became clear that not all the years where minted - Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

I could pick up 1986 , 1987 ,1988-1990 , 1991 , 1992, 1993 ,1994 (Grey = Not Minted ? )
