Harding & Parker Tokens - Senekal (Orange Free State)
Senekal is a town situated on the banks of the Sand River in the eastern part of the Free State province of South Africa. It was named after Commandant FP Senekal.
Some famous people from this area ... Naka Drotské (Former rugby coach of the Free State Cheetahs) Toks van der Linde (Former rugby player and TV personality)
......and the most famous of all Louw Gertenbach the biggest hunter in Africa was born and raised in this town in the Eastern Free state there is a rumor that he shot 8 lions with his kettie when the lions attacked his slave. ( Now where would you get this type of info if you where not looking at Tokens ? )
These tokens were listed under Senekal by col. Knobel, but also had branches at Kroostad,Excelsior & Frankfort"
About Tokens : " Like other OFS tokens, these were probably used for buying products from the farmers "G.P.Theron

There where two sets of Tokens given out by the general dealers , The first set was made of brass and then later made of celluloid.
The Legend on tokens are two curved lines with value in centre: “H&P. LD. NET OM VOOR TE KOOP
The legend translated is: “ONLY TO BUY WITH”.
1d - (biggest of all ) Red 3d - (smallest) Green 6d - Blue 1 Shilling - Pink'ish 2 Shilling - Brown.
And of course the brass ones was made of brass , you guess it - colour gold'ish , brownish ...ahh come on , someone might not know !
Frankfort Harding and Parker ... Perhaps the pride of the shops in Frankfort, a large departmental store called "Harding and Parker" was run by Charlie Moses and later his son Guy (both somewhat aloof from community affairs). https://www.jewishgen.org/safrica/communities/13/index.htm
I recently received the below document. Here we can see that Harding & Parker was members of The Grain Traders Association "1917" Harding & Parker's name is on Page 3.
